Russell J Gifford

Russell J. Gifford age 78 of Fitchburg, WI died January 11, 2024. He was born in Elkhorn, Wl on February 25, 1945. He was the son of the late Ray and Helen (Russell) Gifford. He grew up on the family farm in Bloomfield Township helping with whatever needed to be done around the farm, milking the cows, baling hay or straw, everyday chores. His love for aviation started at a young age, so much so he worked on getting his pilot’s license taking lessons but never achieved that goal. He then joined the United States Air Force in 1963 serving 4 years. He became a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association located in Oshkosh, WI. He would go to the yearly event when possible. If you went with him, he could tell you the names and descriptions of the planes exhibited or participating in the air show.

Russ collected numerous prints and photos signed by various astronauts from the early days of the space program. Russ worked for the Wisconsin DR for many years in water quality in pursuit of his love for geology. He loved coming home on weekends to the farm to help or just spend time on the farm.

Survived by his daughters Holly Gifford (Dean Humphrey) and Jaime (Jeffrey) Gorr. Grandfather to Maxwell and Alexander Gorr. Further survived by his brothers Alick and Daniel Gifford. He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother Thomas Gifford.
