Bruce Ronald Kelly

January 28, 1944 ~ May 8, 2016 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Bruce R. Kelly, 72, a longtime resident of Elkhorn, WI passed away peacefully at his home Sunday May 8, 2016 surrounded by his family and friends. Bruce was born January 28, 1944 in Chicago, IL.  He was the son of the late Kenneth and Helen (Denton) Kelly. He received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater in Education and Mathematics.  Bruce had an insatiable desire for learning.  Throughout his life he continued taking classes and educating himself.  On June 17, 1967 in Bensenville, IL he was united in marriage to his Middle School sweetheart, Jeanette W. Koebbeman.  Bruce served in the US Army from August 5, 1968 until May 27, 1970 with a tour of duty with the first Calvary in Viet-Nam.  Bruce was a Mathematics teacher at Delavan-Darien High School for over 30 years and continued teaching at Gateway Technical College of Elkhorn, WI for six years until he retired in 2006.  He enjoyed all things outdoors, hunting, fishing and bird watching.  Bruce was a devoted reader and one of his favorite gifts to give, were books.  He was an avid woodworker, he filled his own home and his children’s homes with furniture made from the lumber harvested from trees off his own land.  His greatest pleasure in life was being surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, dogs and friends, as family and friends meant everything to him.  Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jeanette, three children, Jon Kelly of Bay City, WI, Scott (Brenda) Kelly of Desoto, WI and Jeanette (Matt Andre) Kelly of Eau Claire, WI, two grandchildren; Wylie and Leopold Andre and one brother Dennis Kelly of Margate, FL and by a host of other relatives and friends.   An Open House to Celebrate his Life will be held at the family’s residence N5843 Connaughton Lane Elkhorn, WI Saturday May 14, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM with Military Honors at 1:30 PM provided by the Elkhorn American Legion Post # 45 and Elkhorn VFW Post # 6375.   Memorials may be made in Bruce’s name to: Warrior Canine Connection (www.warriorcanineconnection.org) or Pheasants Forever – Walworth County Chapter (www.pheasantsforever.org).  On-line guestbook and more information can be found at http://bookwood.com/brucekelly and at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.   Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Homes and Crematory of Elkhorn assisted the Kelly family.
