Cynthia Ann Sheard, 78 of Elkhorn, WI, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends at Zilber Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI. She was born October 23, 1939 to Edwin Robert and Mary (White) Sheard. She was named Cynthia after her Dad’s mother. She grew up on the family farm on Highway A in Tibbets, WI. She attended Tibbets Grade School and graduated Class of 1957 from Elkhorn High School. Cynthia helped raise sheep, had a Hackney pony named Lady, a shepherd dog named Shep, and many kittens to play with in the hayloft. She showed Shropshire and Southdrum sheep at Land Faire including Wisconsin State Faire and The little International in Madison, WI. Winning many blue and purple ribbons with her earning, she put herself through St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Racine, WI, receiving her Registered Nurse in 1960.
Cynthia was married to Donald G. Voss From 1960 to 1975 having 2 beautiful sons; James R. Voss, D.V.M. and Jon W. Voss, a forensic auditor for a mortgage company. Cynthia worked in her profession for 45 years with an emphasis in Critical Care and Cardiac Rehabilitation. She enjoyed teaching about and living a healthy life style, after retirement in 2005. She gave her time and knowledge to the Open Arms Free Clinic in Elkhorn and held monthly free B/P Clinics throughout the community.
Cynthia enjoyed learning of genealogy. Belonging to the Mayflower and Daughter’s of the American Revolution Societies. She was related to General Bradford with a white line through her Grandfather, Bert H. White. She also traced her Sheard family back to 1545 I Yorkshire, England to Richard Sheard “The Woodman”. Cynthia loved her cottage on Deakin Isle in Lauderdale Lake, especially her sunny front porch, sitting in her wicker chair reading and enjoying a cup of tea, a favorite pass time.
She filled the cottage with family antiques and memorabilia. She also enjoyed playing her Hammond organ and singing along, digging in her flower gardens and always keeping the cookie jar full of fresh baked cookies. She had fun singing in the choruses over the years. Cynthia was in several summer operetta productions at Music By the Lake in Williams Bay. She also enjoyed sailing out of Lake Geneva Yacht Club and with the Lauderdale Lakes Club. Cynthia was very proud of her sons and granddaughter. Their good health, happiness and education was of the utmost importance.
Cynthia showed much empathy and compassion for others. She touched many hearts of her patients, co-workers and family, with her warm smile, kindness and sassy sense of humor. Cynthia was truly beautiful and will be greatly missed. She was one classy lady who loved life.
Cynthia is survived by her two sons, James Voss of Dousman, WI and Jon Voss of Sussex, WI, granddaughter, Parris Voss, sister, Jeanette (Dale) Schueller of Jefferson, WI, husband of 15 years, Donald G. Voss of Union Grove, WI, nephews, Todd (Michelle) and Craig Schueller, niece, Beth Schueller, many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 15 years, Richard Jones.
Memorial service will be 12:00PM on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Bethel United Methodist Church, W5110 County Road A, Elkhorn, WI, with Pastor Don Norman officiating. Visitation will be 11:00AM until service time Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Open Arms Free Clinic of Elkhorn. Online guest book at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.
