Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Darrel was a great guy! I have some great memories from when my parents (Frank and Alice Engebretson) would take the family up north to visit!

Darrel,
Your passing leaves a giant hole in my heart. I regret that I never got to spend as much time with you as I wanted to. I turned 17 the year you were born and left home at the age of 18. I remember that some years later you were told that I was your brother. Maybe you thought I was just a guy who showed up every now and then and spent a day or two.
I remember one day when you were still quite small we took a walk in the woods and walked into a bunch of deer that were in their beds. They darted away with flags flying. I told you to stand perfectly still and not talk. Soon the deer came back staring at us and bobbing their heads as they tried to figure out what we were. I will cherish that memory forever. Perhaps that experience contributed to your love of hunting.
As ring bearer at our wedding, you stole the show at the end of the ceremony. At first I think you were disappointed that we didn’t use the fake rings that were pinned to the pillow you carried up the aisle. Then when Donna and I turned and started walking back down the aisle, you turned and said “Now where are they going?” Always good for a laugh.
Then you married Kim - during deer season of all things. I remember bringing blaze orange ribbon to wear in place of neckties. Just teasing of course but I think Kim got a look at the family of kooks she was joining. Kim has been as wonderful as any wife and sister could be. We love her and your two wonderful children Erika and Mark. Following your example, Erika and Mark both married well and you have every reason to be proud of them. We pledge to give your family all the support we can.
Rest in God’s peace until we meet again. We love you brother.

Darrel was ahead of me in high school, but that never stopped him to share his laughter and smiles to everyone that he came in contact with, especially during FFA events. Hoping your family is given strength to cope with this difficult time and know that he was thought of by many people and will be missed.

Dear Kim & Family,
I’m so sorry for your loss. I remember him bringing you into work. It was nice to meet you, as he always talked so lovingly of you and his family. He touched so many lives with that smile and twinkle in his eyes. He will be missed but not forgotten. I will certainly miss him and being able to send him a message anytime with the crazy hours we seemed to keep with work schedules. I know words cannot take your pain away but I pray it will lessen with time.

I am so sorry for your loss, he was a great man. I am unsure if I will be able to come to the visitation, so I am giving my condolence on here. I hope I can make it. My best memory of him was probably when I was really young and he kept making jokes about me messing around with his dog. I hope to make it out and pay my respects to a great man, father, and husband.
