Donald J. Layton, Sr., age 66, of Twin Lakes, WI, passed away Tuesday morning, March 14, 2017 at his home.

Don was born on June 17, 1950 in Woodstock, IL, the son of the late Durwood and Estelle Stewart Layton, Sr..  Don was raised in Fox Lake, IL and moved to Twin Lakes in 1981. On March 23, 1990 in Elkhorn, WI, Don was united in marriage to Eileen M. Calkins.

Don served in the U.S. Army as a Sp5 serving in Vietnam.  He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 2OS Bars, the Vietnam service medal and the Air Medal W/2 OS Bars.

Don formerly worked as a winder for Olson Electric in Richmond, IL.  Don was a jack of all trades and refinished furniture, did painting, worked as a bartender, cooked pigs at the former Lake Mary Resort and formerly worked for Yunker Industries in Lake Geneva, WI.  Most of all he enjoyed boating and being on the Chain of Lakes in Fox Lake.  He was a former member of the Twin Lakes American Legion Post #544 and the Moose Lodge in Antioch, IL.

Don is survived by: his wife Eileen; Children, Dawn (Joseph) Burns of Lake Geneva, wI, James (Jill) Layton of Marshfield, WI, Jamie (Ken) Starkey of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Jenny Layton of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; 10 grandchildren; 1 brother, Durwood (Chris) Layton of Ingleside, IL,; 3 sisters, Kathy (Ken) Dietrich of Cadiz, KY, Debbie (Wally) Pawlik of Carpentersville, IL and Sue (Tom) Chisholm of McHenry, IL and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.  Don was loved by many.

The Layton Family will receive friends from 1:00PM until 4:00PM with a time of remembrance at 3:00PM Saturday March 25, 2017 at the Haase-Lockwood & Assoc. Funeral Home and Crematory in Twin Lakes.  Memorial remembrances may be sent to the Layton Family at OP.O. Box 310, Twin Lakes, WI 53181.
