Donald S. Walby, age 67, of the Village of Bloomfield, WI (Pell Lake), passed away Thursday morning, March 30, 2017 at his home.
Donald was born on April 13, 1949 in Elkhorn, WI, the son of the late Stanley J. and Lorraine D. Smiley Walby. On July 27, 1978 in Twin Lakes, WI, Donald was united in marriage to Sheryl Ann Christison. He has been a resident of Pell Lake his entire life. He was a graduate of Badger High School in 1967 and attended classes at Gateway.
Donald served in the U.S. Army from Oct.29, 1969 until discharge on Sept. 3, 1971. He then served again from February 1, 1973 until discharge again on January 28, 1976. He served in Vietnam and the Canal Zone. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 1 overseas bar, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm and the Army Commendation Medal.
Donald formerly owned and operated Walb’s Oasis store in Pell Lake, was night supervisor of housekeeping at the Abby Resort in Fontana, WI and manager of the car wash at the Shell Station in Lake Geneva.
Donald was a member of the Bloomfield VFW Post 5830. He enjoyed playing pool and was a member of pool leagues. He enjoyed doing auto body work and enjoyed sitting and watching the lake.
Donald is survived by: his wife, Sheryl; 2 daughter’s, Shay (Michael) Zerfas of Elkhorn, WI and Ashley Walby of Sharon, WI; 7 grandchildren, Averie, Owen, Caleb, Zandra, Kodi, Hunter and Wyatt; 1 brother, Robert (Glenda) of Janesville, WI.
A Service with Military Honors will be held at a later date at Southern Wi Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI. The Haase-Lockwood Assoc. Funeral Home and Crematory of Genoa City is serving the Walby Family.
