Gene Oliver Olson

Gene O. Olson, age 87, of Genoa City, WI (Powers Lake) passed away Sunday morning, November 12, 2017 at the Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington.

Gene Oliver Olson was born on January 5, 1930 in Holman, WI, the son of the late Lyn O. and Alice Trinrud Olson.  Gene was united in marriage to Marilyn Juedes on February 20, 1960 in Milwaukee, WI.

Gene served in the U.S. Air Force for five and a half years during the Korean Conflict.  He served as a Radar Mechanic.  He then attended cadet school and received his wings as an Aircraft Observer Navigator on July 13, 1953.  He was assigned to the 27th Air Refueling Squadron in Austin, TX.  He was released from active duty as a First Lieutenant on July 13, 1956.

Gene graduated from Holmen High School in 1948.  He graduated from the Wisconsin State College with a B.S. degree from La Crosse in 1958 and the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a M.S. degree in 1962.  He continued at the university after being accepted into the doctoral program.

Gene was employed by Wilmot Union High School and taught Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics for three years.  He then served as Assistant Principal for three years, Principal for four years and District Administrator for 21 years when he retired in June of 1989.

He was the first president of Christ Lutheran Church in Paddock Lake, WI and was also president of Messiah Luther Church in Twin Lakes.  He served on the Gateway Technical College board for seven years and one year as chairman of the board.

He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Twin Lakes, the Twin Lakes American Legion Post #544 and the Wilmot Masonic Lodge.  He enjoyed golfing.

Gene is survived by:  His wife, Marilyn; 2 sons, Michael G. (Lori) Olson of Waterford, WI and Gregory L. Olson of Elkhorn, WI; 1 daughter, Betsy L. (Steve) Johnson of Rockton, IL; four wonderful grandchildren, Garrett and Grant Olson and Matthew and Andrea Johnson; 2 brothers, Charles (Carol) Olson of Sun Lakes,, AZ and Larry (Mary) Olson of Wausau, wI; 1 sister Ruth (Brandt) Werner of Reedburg, WI.

He was preceded in death by a sister and brother in law, Marilyn (John) Rem.

The Olson Family will receive friends from 12:00PM until the time of Funeral Services at 3:00PM on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 8720 368th Ave. (Hy 0 and F), Twin Lakes, WI.  Interment will be at 1:00PM Monday at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.  In lieu of flowers, Memorial remembrances may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice.  For online guestbook: haaselockwoodfhs.com.  The Haase-Lockwood & Assoc.
