George Lyman Ackerman was born on February 28, 1932 in Three Oaks, Michigan, the son of the late John J. and Ethelyeen Paul Ackerman.  On November 21, 1954, in Washington, DC, George was united in marriage to Betty Snead.  They moved to Twin Lakes in 1971 and to Burr Oak Manor in Genoa City a year ago.

George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He was a tool and die maker and owned Ackerman-Kat and Hirsch Tool and Die in McHenry, IL where he designed and engineered the self- piercing flush sheet metal rivet.  He then owned Ackerman Engineering where he developed the automated assembly machine.  They attended Wilmot United Methodist Church for many years.  He enjoyed watching football and was an avid Packers fan.

George, being an engineer, enjoyed tinkering with lawnmowers and maintaining his yard.  He was very interested in finding why things worked.
