George J. Bakiares, age 84, of Chicago, IL and Twin Lakes, WI, passed away Sunday morning, October 9, 2016 t his home.
George was born on January 17, 1932 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late John and Sophie Cromydas Bakiares. On July 17, 1954, in Chicago, IL, George was united in marriage to Josephine Oddo.
George served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from February 18, 1952 until discharge on November 17, 1953. He served overseas and earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
George worked and Bindery Foreman for the Busch and Schmidt Printing Co. in Chicago. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Twin Lakes. He was a member of the GAIU Union in Chicago and was treasurer of the Lake Elizabeth Manor Assoc. for many years. He enjoyed people, crossword puzzles, fishing and boating.
George is survived by: His wife, Josephine; 3 children-Jeffrey (Lynn) Bakiares of Chicago, IL, Gina Santori of Lisle, IL and Lisa Bakiares-Brown of St. Charles, IL; 4 grandchildren-John, Katie, Meagan and Michael.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother-Peter, sister-Joan and son in law-Richard Santori.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 701 N. Lake Ave. Twin Lakes, WI. Inurnment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Memorial remembrances in George’s Name may be made to the LaSalette Shrine, P.O. Box 777, Twin Lakes, WI 53181. The Haase-Lockwood & Assoc. Funeral Home and Crematory of Twin Lakes is serving the Bakiares Family.
