Jack D. Cornes; 85, of Williams Bay, WI died peacefully Saturday morning February 11, 2017 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born February 27, 1931 in Evanston, IL the son of the late Philip and Janet (Mitchell) Cornes. Jack served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. On June 29, 1957 he was united in marriage to Joanne Engman in Evanston, IL. Joanne died May 20, 2014. Jack was employed as Mechanical Design Engineer for over 30 years working in the printing business; retiring from Video Jet of Elkhorn, WI in 1997. Jack was a long-standing member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). He was a private pilot who went as far as building a Pitts Special (Bi-plane) in his own garage. His prior owned Corban “Baby Ace” is currently on display at the EAA Museum in Oshkosh, WI. He was a member of the NRA, Black Powder Gun Club, He loved to show and collect classic British cars. Jack was an avid and very competitive runner, who ran seven marathons and many other races too numerous to count. Jack loved animals, especially his dogs. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his two daughters; Valerie Caithamer of Lake Geneva, WI and Dawn (John) Tomczyk of Shoreview, MN, Six grandchildren; Felicia (Christian) Hoffman, Desiree and Carly Caithamer, Faith, Cameron and Thaddeus Tomczyk, one great grandson; Matthew Hoffman and by a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years, Joanne and his brother Phil Cornes. Memorial gathering of Friends & Family will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday August 16, 2017 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory 730 N. Wisconsin Street Elkhorn, WI.
