James Martin Tatge, 87, died peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning. He was born Sept. 1, 1929 in Des Plaines, IL, to Virginia Lee (Martin) Tatge and William Tatge.

He was educated in Des Plaines schools. His family later moved to Powers Lake, WI.

Jim enlisted in the Army on April 13, 1951 and served in the Korean War with the 3rd Division of the 7th Infantry Regiment (the Cottonbalers).

He worked for Security Manufacturing Co. as an IBEW electrician; installing lightning rods on the Mitchell Park Domes in Milwaukee and the John Hancock building in Chicago, IL.

On Dec. 2, 1967, he was united in marriage to Barbara Kerkman.

In 1968, he took over the family business – a fishing resort in Powers Lake named Jim’s Boats. He operated the resort for several decades, where he and Barbara made many dear friends.

Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served for many years as president of Powers Lake Sportsmans’ Club. He also enjoyed golfing, playing cards and cribbage, and reading mystery books. He was a shuffleboard champion at Kings Gate Club, in FL, where he and Barbara lived as snowbirds for many years.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Tatge, of Lake Geneva; sons from a previous marriage, Jeffrey Tatge, of Countryside, IL, and Jarrett Tatge, of Brookfield, IL; daughter Jill (Mike) Rozell, of Burlington; and his grandchildren Taylor Tatge, Michael Rozell, Rachael Rozell and Ryan Rozell.
