I had the honor of working with Jean at the Elkhorn Independent from 2007-12. She was a wonderful mentor. She will be remembered for her incredible contribution to the world of journalism.

Jean was my next door neighbor in Elkhorn for a couple years. She was the perfect neighbor....funny with great stories to tell! When she moved "around the corner and down the block", we didn't see each other very much as we both had busy lives. I missed talking to her and just last week I thought about taking a walk over to her house to chat awhile. As usual, something came up and I thought, "next week". How sad it is that I didn't take that time to stop and see her. But she will always remain "my great next door neighbor"! My condolences go out to you, Jennifer. Sincerely, Joette Selky

Sending my condolences. I was a student of Jean's at UW-Oshkosh in the early 1990s. She was a great teacher, and in the years after graduation, she did freelance work for the paper I worked at, so we would have a chance to catch up. We hadn't seen each other in years. She definitely impacted my life in journalism. She will be missed.
