Mary (Janik) Nettesheim

January 14, 1919 ~ September 17, 2016 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Mary A. (Janik) Nettesheim, 97, of Dubuque, IA, passed away on September 17, 2016. Mary was born on Jan. 14, 1919, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Kaprak) Janik. She married Alfred Nettesheim on Feb. 3, 1945, in Elkhorn, WI. He predeceased her on August 16, 1986.

  

At age 2 Mary moved with her family to Black River Falls, WI, where she grew up speaking Polish as her first language and attended school. In her early 20s she moved to Elkhorn, WI, where she married and began her family. In 1957, they moved to a farm in Beloit, WI. She lived in Janesville, WI, from 1999-2008; and Dubuque, IA, from 2008 until her death.

 

Mary loved children and taking care of her family. She was known as a great cook with exceptional Polish hospitality. She had a joyful spirit and all were welcome in her home for good food and laughter. She was an adoring grandma, grew a beautiful garden and was a talented seamstress. She never stopped smiling; to be in her presence was to be happy.
She was both a working woman and homemaker at different times. She worked as a young woman in Holton’s musical instrument factory which switched to war work during WWII. In 1969 she became Beloit, Wisconsin’s first female mail carrier! She was also a well-known Avon lady. 

 

She is survived by her son, Steve (Karen) Nettesheim, Evansville, WI; daughter, Mary (Rick) Reich, Dubuque, IA;  son-in-law, Russell Snyder, Tempe, AZ; granddaughters, Sr. Nicole Reich, Sinsinawa, WI, and Kari (Marcel) Glogauerreich, Dubuque, IA; step-granddaughters Crystal (Jacey) Zembal, Raleigh, NC, JoEllen Mansfield, Samantha Mansfield and Tonya (fiance Andrew Rozell) Mansfield, Evansville, WI; step-great granddaughters Kendra, Aliyah and Renee; niece Joan (Mike) Glodowski; great nephew, Jason (Jennifer) Glodowski; and great great niece, Chloe Glodowski. 

In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by two daughters: Sherry Olson in 2011 and Ellen Snyder in 2013; also her parents and siblings Ed (Millie) Janik and Sophie Janik.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH 107 W. Walworth Street Elkhorn, WI. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Elkhorn, WI.  Visitation Saturday 9:00AM until 10:30AM at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory 730 N Wisconsin St. Elkhorn, WI.  On-line guestbook is at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.
