Carmen Versteegh Obituary

Carmen M. Versteegh, 85 of Elkhorn, WI, died Thursday, August 2, 2018 at her home in Elkhorn. She was born January 28, 1933 in New York City, NY, the daughter of the late Mario and Alexandrina (Mercado) Romano. Carmen graduated high school from Julliard in New York City studying music and art.  She went on to New York University majoring in music.  She rose to stardom as the voice of Chiquita Banana doll commercials.  Carmen was a demo singer, performer, headlined at Montmarte Night Club in Cuba and Buttery Room in Ambassador West Hotel in Chicago.   She married Hugh Versteegh on October 11, 1958 in Oak Park, IL.  Carmen decided at that point it was time to start her family. She later worked at executive secretary for Replogle Globes Co. of Chicago. Together, Hugh and Carman had to loving sons, Thomas Versteegh of Elkhorn and Hugh (Amy) Versteegh of Spring Grove and two grandchildren, Ally and Katie.  Carmen was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, on August 24, 2007.  Private family service at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.
