Charles E. Ayers Sr, 84, of Spring Prairie, WI died Friday February 23, 2018 at his residence. He was born April 2, 1933 in Memphis Tennessee, the son of the late Jonny Jones and Alberta Ayers. Charles served in the U.S. Army with a tour duty in Korea where he earned the Purple Heart. He was united in marriage to Jannie Banks for over nine years; together they had a son, Charles E. Ayers Jr. Charles was then married for over 42, years to Elsie “Essie” Lucille Jones; they had a son Vincent Ayers. Essie died February 12, 2011. Charles worked as a carpenter all of his life. He was President of the Local Carpenter’s Union Local #314 in Madison, WI. Charles was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his son: Charles E. (Loretta) Ayers Jr. of Chicago, IL and two step-daughters: Theresa Gipson and her children: Thomacina, Doristeen and Corey, and Esther Smith and her children: Whilvena and Crystal. Five grandchildren: Charles III, Marcel, Kendall, Pierce and Vincent Jr., Three great-grandchildren: Jeremiah, Nevaeh and Omara and further survived by a host of step- grandchildren, relatives and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his son: Vincent, two granddaughters: Whitney and Bannesa Ayers and his sister Doristeen. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday March 5, 2018 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Homes and Crematory 730 N. Wisconsin Street Elkhorn, WI with Rev. Bill McBride officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial with military honors will be 1:00 PM Monday at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery Union Grove, WI.
