Duane L. Murray

July 8, 1954 ~ May 7, 2018 (age 63)

Duane L. Murray; 63 died suddenly of a coronary incident at his home in Wisconsin 05/07/2018.  He was born 07/08/1954 in Chicago IL to Jack and Katherine Murray (both deceased).  His love of the outdoors began with his involvement in the Boy Scouts.  He graduated from Lyons Township High School and began working as a spray painter until joining the La Grange Illinois police force in 1980 where he served for over 30 years.  Among his many accomplishments while on the force were his Certification as an Expert Accident Reconstruction Specialist, respected Field Training Officer and one of the Cook County’s most knowledgeable Truck Enforcement Specialists.  Besides his record at the department and the many lives he touched in his service, he is also well known for his painting skills.  From signs to lettering to pin striping, he could draw and paint remarkably well.  After moving to Wisconsin, he enjoyed volunteering for the Elkhorn Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce events, donating much of his time and talents.  He loved spending the summers with his twin brother, Darrel, at their home on Caribou Lake in Marcell, Minnesota where he was the “Head Chef” in the outdoor kitchen.  Loving father of Ben (Alaina) of Lemont, IL, Christopher (Ana) of Pfluegerville, TX and Kara Murray of Pfluegerville, TX, and proud grandfather of Camden K.D. Murray who was born to Ben and Alaina just two days before his death. He is survived by his children and twin brother, Darrel along with Karen Kallem his devoted companion and her two black dogs, Hercules & Abel.  Calm, sincere and humble, he’ll be missed by many.  No services will be held in Wisconsin.  Donations in his honor to the Lakeland Animal Shelter would be sincerely appreciated.
