Gary Sexson Obituary

Gary D. Sexson age 75 of Randall, Township died peacefully on August 10, 2019.  He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 18, 1944.  Gary was adopted by his parents, the late Jerry and Edith (Fenwick) Sexson, and later in life learned about his birth history and ancestry with the help of the Nebraska Children’s Home.

On June 10, 1967 in Center Harbor, New Hampshire he was united in marriage to Mayetta Brown Sanderson.  He served in the United States Army (where he was lucky enough to meet Mayetta) before returning to Nebraska where he earned he B.S. and M.S. degree in Entomology.  He worked for many years as an agricultural chemical representative for the Zeneca Chemical Company.  He retired at age 58 and filled his later years with travel, clubs and family.  He loved his home away from home, Sarasota Sands Resort on Lido Key, Florida where he enjoyed his snow-bird friends.

Gary had many hobbies beyond his work as an agricultural scientist.  During his life Gary was a member of the Masonic Lodge #241 of Wilmot, WI and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Milwaukee and the Tripoli Shrine of Milwaukee.  As a Shriner he participated in the Order of Quetzalcoatl Teocalli #50, the Royal Order of Jesters Court #101, El Hajj Caravanserai Oasis #2, the Hillbilly Clan #50 and he was a member of the International Association of Shrine Yacht Club.  Gary was also a member of the American Legion Post #361 of Wilmot, WI, the Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club, and a brother Acacian (which he shared membership with his son Gary II).  He was a University of Nebraska Alumni and in his early years he received his Eagle Scout.  Throughout this life, he enjoyed working with children and was occasionally known to help Santa during his busy winter season.  He loved football and would spend fall weekends enjoying college football and watching the Green Bay Packers.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mayetta.   He was a proud father to Dr. Gary (Sharon) Sexson II and Deana (David) Knuteson, PhD.  He enjoyed his role as grandfather of Gabriela Sexson, Gary Sexson III, Danika Knuteson and Danyelle Knuteson.   He was preceded in death by his sister Patty Snyder.   Many friends and extended family will remember Gary for his larger than life personality and for his love of a cocktail toast on any occasion – anyone want a margarita?

A Celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Friday August 16, 2019 at 6:00PM at the Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory.   Visitation will be from 4:00PM until time of services.  Inurnment will take place at a later date at Southeastern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his name to Shriners Hospitals for Children (https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/shc) or your favorite charity.  Online condolences Haaselockwoodfhs.com.
