John Peter Pappas

Lake Geneva: John Peter Pappas: 88, of Lake Geneva, WI died Sunday June 17, 2018 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center Elkhorn, WI.  John was born May 7, 1930 in Gary, IN the son of the late Peter John and Georgia (Kouvanis) Pappas.  John served from November 29, 1948 to November 28, 1949 at Fort Benning, GA and then January 29, 1951 until August 28, 1952 at Camp Carson CO as sergeant with the U.S. Army 502 101st airborne Infantry.  He was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Fry on June 12, 1954.  Dorothy died April 25, 1999.  John owned and operated a marina in Cuba in the mid fifties until the military coup in 1959.  He then came back to Lake Geneva where he owned and operated the family restaurant business the International Café of Lake Geneva, WI until he sold it in 1981.  He was an active in home construction and rental properties. John was a member of the Frank Kresen American Legion Post # 24 of Lake Geneva, WI.  John was very athletic in his younger days; he was an avid sailor, swimmer, and runner and was a golden glove boxer. A devoted and loving husband and father and dedicated grandfather who will be deeply missed by his two children; Joanne A. Patzfahl of Lake Geneva, WI and Paul Samuel “Sam” (Edyta) Pappas of Fontana, WI, six grandchildren; Althea (Javier) Salgado, Jake (Ioana) Pappas, Oksana and Nadia Smale, Sophie and Isabelle Pappas, four great grandchildren; Liliana, Jesse, John and Silas, his sister; Angie Petros of Flordia and by a host of other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy, son; Peter John and his sister; Angie.  Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday June 26, 2018 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory 730 N. Wisconsin Street Elkhorn, WI with Father Kevin Huddleston officiating. Visitation will be Monday at the funeral home from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lake Geneva, WI.  Memorials may be made in John’s name to: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 200 S.
