Robert "Bob" Anderson Obituary

Robert C. "Bob" Anderson formerly of Escanaba, MI, and East Troy, WI, passed peacefully on May 29, 2019, in Elkhorn, WI.

Bob was born on June 4, 1927, in Escanaba to Carl and Leona (Kluba) Anderson. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Anderson (nee Giffin) on June 26, 1954, in North Chicago, IL. The couple lived in a number of locations as he was employed in the Navy while raising four children. The couple settled in East Troy until the mid-1980s and then returned to Escanaba to enjoy retirement.

He enlisted in the US Navy on June 2, 1945, served on active duty for 20 years, followed by 10 years in the Naval Reserves, retiring in May of 1975. As a Senior Chief Machinist Mate he served with distinction aboard surface ships until he attended and graduated from Submarine School, Navy Nuclear Power School, and Naval Reactor Prototype Course and then served aboard the USS John Adams where he earned a citation for his contribution to the superior operation of its nuclear power engineering plant. He ended his naval career as an instructor for nuclear naval operations and a member of the Fleet Reserve.  His military service was followed by work in the trades involving compressors and turbines. He also served as a consultant at the paper mill in Escanaba. He retired to devote full time to his loves of fishing on Lake Michigan, flying, and looking for his golf balls as a long-time member of the Escanaba Country Club.

Bob is survived by three children, Cathy Schultz, Michael (Lynn) Anderson, and Margaret Bower; five grandchildren, Carley (Michael) Paul, Casey (Scott) Reis, Autumn (Robert) Reid, Amanda and Arianna (Jay Martinez) Schultz; and six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Macie Paul, Delaney Reis, Ben, Jackson, and Peyton Reid.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty; his oldest child, Michele "Micky" Anderson; sons-in law, Ben Bower and Mark Schultz; his parents, and siblings, Doris Swanick, Vernon, Lois Pilon, Mary Ann Hotchkiss, James, Joseph, Patricia, and Thomas.

Private services for the family will be held, with burial at a later date in his beloved Escanaba.  Online guestbook can be found at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.
