William “Bill” L. Sigmund, 86 of Court St. Elkhorn, died peacefully Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 5, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of the late John and Mary Sigmund. He graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1949. He spent one year at Wisconsin State College in Stevens Point, WI and two years at Wisconsin State College in Whitewater, WI. Bill served during the Korean War as an Ordnance Man with the United States Army from October 5, 1951 to June 20, 1953. He was united in marriage on 1956 to Esther Riek in East Troy, WI. Bill retired in 1995 from Lakeland Hospital after 15 years as a maintenance man. Before that, he worked 20 years at Frank Holton and Company making brass band instruments. Bill owned and operated Greenview Nursery of Elkhorn for over 15 years. Bill served as Commander for American Legion Post #45 in Elkhorn. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, especially deer hunting on his property in Crivitz, WI. Bill was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Esther, two sons, Steven (Celeste) Sigmund of Finland, MN and Mark (Caryn) Sigmund of Rockford, IL, one daughter, Jean Sigmund of Elkhorn, six grandchildren; Danielle Sigmund, Stephanie (Alex) Nelson, Michael Thomson, Evan Sigmund, Jake and Kyle Rotta, and one great-granddaughter, Bria Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; John, Charles and Herbert Sigmund.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30AM on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 107 W. Walworth St. Elkhorn. Visitation will be 4:00PM to 7:00PM Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home, 730 N Wisconsin St. Elkhorn. Interment with Military Honors at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Elkhorn.
