Elkhorn: Angela K. Byrnes, 97 of Wynantskill, N.Y. died at her home Monday January 6, 2014. Angela Kelly was born April 8, 1916 in Williston, N.D. After high school, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work as a stenographer, where she met John Byrnes, an East Troy, WI native. They married on June 15, 1940, in Washington, D.C. After John's Army service in World War II, They lived in Elkhorn from 1947 until John's death in 1985. She remained in Elkhorn until 1998, when she moved to Portland, Ore., home of her sisters Josephine, Bernadette and Rose. Angela worked as a Legal Secretary and also taught typing at Elkhorn High School. She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish for 51 years, and she served on the Matheson Memorial Library Board. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Alverno College in Milwaukee at the age of 78, and completed graduate courses at UW-Whitewater past her 80th birthday. She is survived by her daughters Joanne of Oakmont, PA and Rita of Washington, D.C.; sons Jack (Marie) Naples, FL, Dan (Bridget) of Voorheesville, N.Y. and Matt (Julie) of Milwaukee, WI, her grandchildren Mike Fitzgerald, Tim (Shelly) Fitzgerald, Julie (Tony) Brandstetter and Kyle Byrnes; great-grandchildren Owen, Lindsey, Hannah and Erin Fitzgerald. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday August 22, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church 107 W. Walworth Street Elkhorn, WI with Father Oriol Regales officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery Elkhorn, WI. Memorials may be made in Angela's name to: Alverno College or the Community Hospice 295 Valley View Road, Rensselaer, N.Y. 12144.
