Barbara Johnson Welkos age 93 of Elkhorn, WI died at home on Tuesday July 23, 2024.  Barbara was born June 1, 1931; daughter of the late Nathan and Louise (Olcott) McClure.  Barbara married Lester R. Johnson on December 30, 1954; together they raised 4 children until the time of his passing on February 21, 1983.  A few years later, Barbara married Warren Welkos on December 30, 1986.  That marriage extended their family as Warrens and Barbara's children and grandchildren all became one large family.  Warren died on December 7, 2009.  Barbara continued to live in the house they resided in on Court Street until she moved into Ridgestone.

Barbara was very involved in local community activities which included volunteering at the fairgrounds, hospital, hospice, and church.  She was a big supporter of anything involving Elkhorn Sports; she also loved to garden and enjoyed playing golf.

Barbara is survived by her children; Debbie (Mark) Ellingen, Steve (Andrea) Johnson, Sue (Lou) Sanicola, Ted (Coreen) Johnson; stepchildren; Ann (Phil) Strohbusch, Mary (Dan) Alder, Pat (Scott) Plucinski; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one sister; and two brothers.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 3, 2024 at 11:00AM at St. John's Church 104 S. Broad Street Elkhorn, WI 53121 officiated by Pastor Tom De Groot.  Visitation will be held before the service beginning at 9:00AM.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barbara's name to St. John Church at the address listed above.  An online guestbook can be found at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com  Barbara's arrangements are under the direction of Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory of Elkhorn, WI.
