Obituary

Carol D. Loew-Kalbas (nee Larson), 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, with family by her side. Carol is survived by her daughters, Lynette (John) Adams Jr. and Cheryl (Jeff) Loew-Resch; grandchildren, John (Jill) Adams III, Steven (Sarah) Adams, Michelle (Lee) Jordan, Amanda (Kenny) Benedix, Colin (Kevin) Loew, Trevor and Brendan Loew, and Jake, Logan, and Kira Resch; great-grandchildren, Livia, Rachel, and Emma Adams, and Elizabeth and Samara Jordan; sister-in-law Marcia Larson; and many nieces and nephews.

Daughter of the late William A. and Lavina (nee Massie) Larson, Carol was born and raised in Chicago, IL. Alumni of Taft High School, Carol furthered her education by attending DePauw University, where she became a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952.

Shortly following graduation, on October 4, 1952, Carol was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart and love of her life, the late Donald G. Loew. Carol and Don, an accomplished florist, were proud owners of a retail floral business in the Chicagoland area, which they prosperously operated together for several years. Spanning many decades, Carol bonded with women of all ages, talents, and interests in her community, focusing on philanthropic and community service projects that helped those in need. In addition to her work outside the home, Carol was an exceptional homemaker and loving mother, devoted to raising four children. After the passing of her adoring husband of 40 years, Carol was blessed to find love again, marrying former Taft classmate and Don's college roommate, widower William F. Kalbas. Carol and Bill spent 15 wonderful years living in beautiful southwest Montana before his passing. A gifted conversationalist, Carol would always be sure to seize a friendly opportunity to socialize whenever in the company of others. Faith was an unwavering pillar in Carol's life. Having a grand appreciation of a long life of abundant blessings, she exemplified kindness towards all whom crossed her path.

In death, she is reunited with her parents, William A. and Lavina Larson; brother, William N. Larson; sons, Neal Loew and Craig (Margo) Loew; husbands, Don Loew and Bill Kalbas, and many cherished friends who have passed before her.
