Charlotte L. "Char" Shivers died peacefully on March 23, 2020, at Ridgestone Terrace, a caring and loving community in Elkhorn, Wis. Born in 1938 in Sturgis, S.D., Char spent much of her life in Texas with her beloved partner of more than 25 years, the late John T. Smith.

Char was active in her church's volunteer programs and taught literacy in elementary schools. She loved coffee, gardening and making friends wherever she went. She is survived by her brother, Laurence Miller of Springfield, Mo., three children—Michele Joslyn, Williams Bay, Wis.; Kathy Thomson, San Antonio, Texas; and Greg Joslyn, Shorewood, Wis.—along with eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
