Obituary

Clarence E. "Red" Hanson, age 91 of Elkhorn, WI, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Son of the late Clarence O. and Elsie M. (Rippie) Hanson, Red was born at home on May 11, 1933, in Beloit, WI, where he grew up. After graduating from Beloit Memorial High School in 1951, Red went on to study at Wisconsin State College-Whitewater now known as UW-Whitewater. Two years into his studies, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country honorably and with great pride. Following his honorable discharge, he began his career as a manufacturing engineer. On September 18, 1965, Red was united in marriage with Carol A. Schroeder at Caldwell Methodist Church and together they had three children.

One of Red's passions was for reading, particularly U.S. history, with a focus on World War II being one of his favorite topics as he vividly remembered hearing the broadcast of the attack on Pearl Harbor when he was eight years old over his family's ham radio. Red was also an avid sports fan who loved his Wisconsin teams such as the Packers, Brewers, and Bucks. He was a skilled ball player and went on to coach his sons in baseball and then enjoyed golfing in his retirement.

The most important passion in Red's life was his family. He was a devoted husband and father. Some of the fondest memories were lake activities, family vacations, and family gatherings many which were filled with the excitement of euchre games. Red was a euchre master with a fun, competitive spirit, and a sharp sense of humor. He took his family's well-being and his role as husband, dad, and papa very seriously, making sure everyone knew how loved they were by him.

Red is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Hanson; children, Terry (Rich) Giovannoni, David (Linda) Hanson, and Ross (Rebecca) Hanson; grandchildren, Carmen (Josh) Ognenoff, Michael (Lara) McDonald, and Madalyn (Mike) Spiegelhoff; great-grandchildren, Emileigh, Isabella, Albert and Naomi; brother, Ronald Hanson; and siblings-in-law, Mary Hanson and Walter Geilfuss.

In death, he is reunited with his parents; brother, James Hanson; sisters-in-law, Ruth Geilfuss and Jennie (Felipe) Sanchez; and parents-in-law, George and Dorothy Schroeder.
