David J. (Dave) Rieck, 74, of rural Elkhorn (Town of LaFayette), WI, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at his home. He was born March 11, 1947 in Elkhorn, WI, the son of the late Bernard and June (Wilcox) Rieck.  Dave had a lifelong devotion to farming; he learned to drive a tractor and was helping rake hay before he started kindergarten.  The passion flowing through his veins tended to appear a shade of John Deere green, although some red workhorses found their way into the stables.

In 1965, he graduated from East Troy High School, where he was a three year letterman; participating in baseball for two years, wrestling for three years and football for four years.  He was active as well in Junior Dairymen and FFA for four years. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Patricia A. David on June 20, 1970, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in East Troy, WI.

Dave milked cows until the late 1980s, and continued to raise beef cattle until the late 1990s.  He then focused on crop farming and continued to expand the family farm growing corn, soybeans and a bit of hay for the neighbors throughout his life. The Rieck Family Farm celebrated its centennial in 2020 at its current location. David followed the tradition of Riecks Henry, Herman and Bernard, farming land in Walworth County since 1874.

He will be remembered as a friend and neighbor always willing to lend a hand or equipment. He was an avid Packer and Wisconsin Badger sports fan.  Dave loved to be outdoors, especially any time he could spend hunting.  He was a caring and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia, their two children; Chris (Renee Henningfeld) Rieck and Amy (Darrel) Markham both of Elkhorn, WI, seven grandchildren; Abby, Landon, and Carolann Rieck, Ben, Matt, Rosemary and John Markham, and his sister, Robin Rieck of Renton, WA.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
