Donna Jean Nelson

Donna Jean Nelson (nee Strock) died peacefully unto Christ on February 23, 2026, after a short illness. Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill Nelson Sr. (2016), her parents Leo and Rose Strock, her granddaughter Samantha McIlhany, and her brother Leo Strock. Loving mother of Deborah Nelson-Maney (Richard), Bill Nelson Jr (Dolores), Dawn McIlhany (Matthew). Cherished Grandmother of Andrew McIlhany (Fiance Ariel), Amanda Reichow (Jake). Dear Sister of Charles Strock (Sandy) and Donald Strock (Cris). Further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Donna was truly a “World Traveler” and for four decades Donna ran her own business as a “Senior Tour Coordinator” helping seniors make their travel dreams come true. Starting in the United States flawlessly running bus trips through all 50 states. Donna and her husband Bill would entertain their “Happy Travellers” all the way along their journeys to their destinations. While Donna kept the groups busy with many games and an occasional taste of wine and cheese, her husband Bill, with his booming baritone voice would sing to the delight of their passengers. Eventually Donna elevated her game to trips overseas. Most notably through Europe, Asia and Africa. Donna and Bill also took their family on many vacations to Florida and the Disney Parks. They also, celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with the family on a Hawaiian Island Cruise. Traveling and entertaining family and friends truly was her life passion.

Donna and Bill were very involved parishioners at St. Denis Catholic Church on the southside of Chicago planning and hosting many events over the years.

Donna will be missed, always loved and never forgotten by all her friends and of course her loving family.
