Evelyn Jean Mumenthaler (née Nelson) January 6, 1942 – October 16, 2025
Evelyn Jean Mumenthaler, 83, of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born in San Diego, California, on January 6, 1942, Evelyn was the beloved daughter of Frederick and Soledad (Chavarria) Nelson. She spent her childhood in Libertyville, Illinois, and later became an honorary member of the Grayslake High School Class of 1960 alongside her husband, William. Evelyn proudly dedicated many years to Abbott Laboratories, where she was known for her strong work ethic, loyalty, and the deep friendships she cultivated.
Evelyn was a woman of many talents and boundless creativity. She found joy in stained glass, painting, baking, sewing, interior design, and landscaping—each project a reflection of her artistic spirit and attention to detail. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, and it showed in the magical way she transformed her home with beautifully decorated trees, handmade wreaths, and festive warmth. She truly had a gift for making everything around her more beautiful.
Evelyn loved Christmas with all her heart. It was her favorite time of year—the lights, the music, the joy, and most of all, the togetherness. So when her health began to decline, her family did something extraordinary: they brought Christmas to her.
On September 28, 2025, Evelyn's home was filled with the spirit of the season. Her entire family gathered for a special early Christmas celebration. The house glowed with warmth and laughter, and for one perfect day, time stood still.
Evelyn, always thoughtful and generous, had prepared gifts for each of her loved ones. She gave everyone a handcrafted Christmas sleigh—lovingly made by her and her husband—and cookbooks she had cherished over the years. These weren't just presents; they were pieces of her heart, shared with the people she loved most.
That day was more than a celebration. It was a gift. A final Christmas wrapped in love, memory, and legacy—a day none of us will ever forget.
Above all, Evelyn's heart belonged to her family. She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Nicole (George) Valach of Twin Lakes, WI, and Danielle Marifern of Pleasant Prairie, WI; her cherished grandchildren, Keegan (26), Hunter (25), Megan (23), and Rebekah (21); and her dear sister, Jan (Doug) Chard of Highlands Ranch, CO. She also leaves behind many extended family members and lifelong friends who were touched by her kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband, William J. Mumenthaler; her sister, Lorraine Nelson; and her treasured pets Pumpkin, Scrappy, and Jonnie, who brought her endless joy and companionship.
In lieu of a traditional funeral, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 2nd, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at The Club at Strawberry Creek, 14810 72nd Street, Kenosha, WI 53142. Moments of memories and a prayer will begin at 3:00 PM to honor Evelyn's beautiful life and legacy.
