Obituary

Frances F. Nohling, 89, of Geneva, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Burr Oak Manor in Genoa City, WI. Frances was born to Francis and M. Louise (O’Brien) Fairchild on November 7, 1936, in Johnson City, NY. She married her husband, David Nohling (d. 2002), on January 23, 1960, in Endicott, NY.

As the eldest of five children, Frances appreciated her independence from a young age. In 1957, she graduated from the University of Rochester in New York with a degree in nursing. She completed additional training at Boston College, where she met David. During their 42 years of marriage, Frances and David traveled the world, beginning their adventures while David served in the United States Air Force and continuing to travel with family and friends throughout their lives. Cape Cod, MA, was the family's favorite destination.

Frances will be remembered for her independent spirit, generous nature, and sense of humor. An avid reader, she enjoyed sharing book recommendations and articles of interest with family and friends. She enjoyed planning social gatherings and happily supported her husband's whimsical endeavors.

Frances is survived by her children, Lars (Jan) Nohling and Elisabeth (Jay) Marshall; her siblings, Richard Fairchild and Michael (Zsuzsanna) Fairchild; her grandchildren, Nicholas (Robyn), Sabrina (Josh), Nathan (Rachel), Noah (Spencer), Flynn, William (Madison), and Reed; and her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Theodore, Jackson, Franklin, Levi, Johanna, and Tatum.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, her husband David, and her siblings William and Susan.

Funeral services for Frances will be held on November 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Frances's name to Special Olympics Illinois, P.O.
