Genevieve "Gen" R. Holden, 94; of Elkhorn, WI died peacefully at her home on Sunday July 3rd, 2016.  She was born on June 5, 1922 in Prairie Farm, WI the daughter of the late Odin and Gendina (Hollen) Fladten.  Gen was united in marriage to Myrl Schlough on July 29, 1944 in Waukegan, IL. Following his service in the US Navy during World War II, they returned to Northern Wisconsin, where they farmed in the Vanceburg area until they moved to Elkhorn in May of 1954.  Myrl passed away on October 28, 1959.  She worked a number of different jobs while living in Elkhorn:  Oaks Mfg, the Ben Franklin Store downtown, and in 1978 started working at Ace Hardware, where she became a fixture in her community.  Gen worked at Ace for thirty years, until she finally retired for the third time in her mid-80s.  In her spare time, Gen enjoyed arts and crafts, especially rosemaling from her native Norway and knitting.  She was an instructor and knitting leader for the Elkhorn 4-H, and served as a state certified knitting judge, who judged for various county fairs in the local area. Throughout the years, she spent countless hours knitting, donating hundreds of caps for premature babies and patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments.  She won multiple county and state awards for her knitting skills.  Gen was known for attending every Walworth County fair for 61-consecutive years (1954-2015), and was recognized in the local newspaper.  For over fifteen years she enjoyed companionship with Ken Berglin.  They greatly enjoyed playing cards, bowling, playing golf, and traveling on vacations together.  Gen loved tending to her flowers and plants in her gardens, and feeding and watching all the birds in her yard – especially her beloved hummingbirds.  Gen is survived by her daughter Gwendolyn Kenney of Madison, WI, two grandsons; Brian Kenney of Virginia and Douglas Kenney of Edgerton, WI, one sister Elaine Beyrer of Connorsville, WI; two sisters-in-law; Mildred Fladten of Barron, WI and Dorothy Fladten of Delavan, WI and further survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Son-in-law Don, 2 brothers Omar and Verlyn Fladten and brother-in-law Raymond Beyrer.  Memorial service will be held 11:30 AM Friday July 15, 2016 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory 730 N. Wisconsin St. Elkhorn, WI with Rev.
