Elkhorn: Harold A. Nelson: 98, of Elkhorn, WI died Monday January 5, 2015 at Lakeland Health Care Center Elkhorn, WI. He was born October 31, 1916 in the Town of Grover, WI. He was the son of the late John and Alice Nelson. He served in the military police with the Army Air Corps during WWII in the European Theater. On May 24, 1947 he was united in marriage to the former Ruth I. Garbrecht in Peshtigo, WI. Ruth died June 17, 2003. Harold worked as a Millwright for over 31 years with Badger Paper Mill in Peshtigo, WI retiring in 1979. He was a former member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Peshtigo, WI, currently a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elkhorn, WI. He was a member of the Peshtigo American Legion Post # 312, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post # 8813, and the D.A.V., former Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts and a Lutheran Boy Pioneer Leader. He enjoyed gardening and volunteering at the V.A. Hospital of Iron Mountain, MI. He was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. He is survived by his daughter; Barbara (Alan) Wood of Elkhorn, WI, Three grandchildren; Jennifer (Jeff) Kleist of Elkhorn, WI, Shannon (Nate) Ernst of Hector, MN and Stefanie (Jamie) Johnson of Saukville, WI, Eight great-grandchildren; Madelyn, Jacob, Zachariah, Emma, Enoch, Gillian, Luke and Evan and three nephews; Bruce (Janet) Anderson, Robert (Ginger) Anderson and Van (Linda) Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 56 years, Ruth, Four sisters; Elsie Nelson, Clara Hauch, Agnes Spice and Bernice Danielson, One brother Oscar Nelson. Funeral service with military honors will be 11:00 am Thursday January 8, 2015 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church 415 Devendorf Street Elkhorn, WI with Rev. David Rau officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Memorial Gardens Marinette, WI. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 9:30 AM until time of service.
