Henry J. (Hank) Bierdz, age 94, of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2015. He was born September 17, 1921, the son of the late Walter and Pauline (Wilot) Bierdz. On September 25, 1942, at St. Paul's Chapel in Madison, he was united in marriage to Anna (Anne) Marie Carey and they celebrated 70 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on July 19, 2013.
Henry was a very active community member. He served over twenty years on the Wilmot High School Board, eighteen as president. He was owner and operator of Bierdz Plumbing and Heating, a board member of CESA 18, and held several offices with Holy Name School and Church in Wilmot, including serving on the building committee. Henry also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Village of Silver Lake. During WWII, he served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army Air Force teaching instrument flying. His leisure time interests included hunting, fishing, cooking, golf, playing bridge (especially duplicate bridge with Anne), and, after retirement, wintering in Florida near their daughter Elizabeth.
Henry is survived by his two daughters, Ellen (John) Osterhart of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Elizabeth (late Glenn) Camp of Melbourne, Florida; two grandsons, Daniel (Tracie) and Stephen (Nardos) Osterhart; and three great-granddaughters, Abigail, Natalie and Rachel Osterhart. He is further survived by sisters-in-law Peggy (Dave) Wiseman and Kay (late Ed) Stucka, numerous nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends Phil and Nancy Cayo. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his five siblings: Peter Bierdz, Edward Bierdz, Estelle Andresen, Helen Henderleiter and Mary Iverson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 12:00PM at the Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home, 620 Legion Drive, Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00AM until the time of the service.
