James D. Cunningham, age 71, of Lake Geneva, WI, died on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Geneva Lake Manor, following a sudden decline in his health. He was the son of William D. and Ruth H. (Runk) Cunningham. Jim was born on February 15, 1952, in St. Clair, MI. Jim grew up and spent his childhood in St. Clair. He loved the St. Clair River. He would swim the channel to Canada and fish off his brother Ross's dock. In 1971 Jim enlisted in the US Army and served his country honorably, and later finished out his service in the United States Reserves. Jim moved to the Burlington, WI area in 1980. He worked several jobs in construction while dedicating himself to his family. He was always willing to help others if they needed it. Later in life he enjoyed long-distance trucking and remarked that driving truck felt like retirement because it allowed him to enjoy the country. He spent time remodeling the family homes and teaching his son many skills along the way. He was proud of his children and their career successes and endeavors. His hobbies included wood carving, stained glass, offshore fishing, and fast motorcycles. He took fishing trips and long motorcycle rides with his son. He enjoyed spending time at family events and laughing with his grandchildren. Jim had a great laugh and sense of humor. His big smile and chuckle were a joy to be around. Jim was a dreamer, some of those dreams he achieved, and others were left unfulfilled. He will be missed immensely by his family that he was so proud of.

Jim is survived by his mother, Ruth Cunningham; children Andrea (Brad) Brewer and William (Heather) Cunningham; grandchildren Stasha Brewer, Dylan and Devin Melchiorre, and Dalton and Sophia Cunningham; siblings, Greg (Diane) Cunningham, Marion (Chuck) Schweihofer, Ross Cunningham (Beth Sheeter), and Barb (Dave) Glines; and former wife Joanne Garza Cunningham.

Burial with military honors to take place on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 3:00PM, at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring St., Union Grove, WI.
