Obituary

James A. Spencer, 73 of Elkhorn, WI, died on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Aurora Memorial Hospital in Burlington, WI. He was born January 19, 1949 to Perry C. and June A. (Ward) Spencer.  Jim attended St. Patrick's Parish Grade School through 8th Grade and graduated from Elkhorn Area High School with the Class of 1967.  He was very active in high school with football and basketball.  After graduation, he attended UW-Madison and then UW-Whitewater.  He married his high school sweetheart, Cindy White on June 1,1968 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Elkhorn, WI.  He was drafted and instead; joined the United States Air Force serving 4 years at the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center in Denver, CO.  He was a sergeant entrusted with paying all overseas Air Force personnel.  After completion of his service, he and his family returned to Elkhorn to work with his father at Spencer TV & Appliance.  After selling the business, he held several positions at Sta-Rite including service, warranty, and ending in customer service.  From there he went to work as Customer Service Manager at Intermatic in Spring Grove, IL until his retirement in 2013.

He also spent a great deal of his time volunteering including the Elkhorn Jaycees (served as president), Elkhorn Zoning Committee, as well as coaching the St. Patrick's girl's basketball team for many years.  A few of those girls went on to lead Elkhorn High School to win the '97 Girls State Championship.   Jim was also very active in St Patrick's Parish serving as Parish Council President three times.

Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cindy and their four children: Andrea (Mike) Burns of Elkhorn, WI, Katie (Dale) Feuling of Greenfield, WI, Matt (Alissa) Spencer of Edgerton, WI and Beth (Jeramy) Hayton of Janesville, WI. Jim and Cindy were blessed with eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Further survived by his two sisters, Peggy (John) Castine of Farmington, MI and Judy (David) Williams of Woodsboro, MD.

Funeral Mass will be 11:30AM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 107 W. Walworth St. Elkhorn, WI.  Visitation will be 9:00 to 11:00AM on Wednesday at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Homes and Crematory, 730 N. Wisconsin St. Elkhorn, WI.  Interment will follow services at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Elkhorn, WI.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Parish or the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, P.O.
