IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James L.
Wykle
July 17, 1946 – March 9, 2025
James L. Wykle, 78, of Sugar Creek, passed away on March 9th, 2025. Jim was born in Chicago, IL., on July 17th, 1946 to his late parents, James and Eleanor (Braun) Wykle. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Margaret (O'Connell) Wykle, on March 15th, 1969, in Chicago, IL.
We will always remember Jim Wykle as an Army veteran, entrepreneur, salesman, patriot, and, most importantly, a devoted husband of fifty-seven years and a loving father. He lived his life with unwavering dedication to his family, shaping each day around the bonds he shared with those he loved—whether they were family, friends, or even strangers who quickly became both.
Jim had a zest for life that was infectious. Whether it was a family ski trip, a motorcycle ride, or hosting Ping-Pong tournaments for the neighborhood, he was in his element. An extrovert through and through, he thrived in the center of the action, bringing laughter and energy wherever he went. Yet, he also found comfort in solitude, enjoying a quiet moment with a cigar in hand.
Above all else, Jim was a family man. Nothing mattered more to him than the people he held dear. His love and devotion were unwavering, his presence a steady anchor for those who needed him.
His loving marriage to his wife, Peggy—whom he affectionately called "Honey Bun"—was an inspiration to everyone who knew them. They were always seen together, an inseparable pair who deeply loved and cared for one another. Their bond was a testament to the power of devotion, partnership, and unwavering support.
Generosity was second nature to Jim. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. His kindness knew no bounds, and he took joy in helping others, never expecting anything in return.
Stern yet stoic, Jim rarely let his emotions dictate his outward demeanor—unless, of course, it was joy or laughter. In retirement, he lived unburdened, knowing life was too short to carry unnecessary weight. He embraced each day with a light heart, a sharp wit, and an appreciation for the simple pleasures.
Jim had a special place in his heart for dogs, and to him, every dog was nothing but a hound dog. He never missed a chance to sing that song to any dog he met, much to their delight—or confusion. But of all the hounds in his life, his beloved dog Henry held the top spot. Henry never went without leftovers, belly rubs, or the boundless love of the best owner a dog could ask for.
Jim Wykle was one of the greats—a man of strength, warmth, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He lived fully, laughed often, and left behind a legacy of love and generosity that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
His family will miss him dearly—his wisdom, his kindness, and the steady presence he provided. Though he is no longer with us, his love and legacy live on in each of us, guiding us as we carry forward the lessons he taught and the love he so freely gave.
Jim is survived by his wife Margaret, his children; Karen (Michael) Hewitt, and Thomas (Melissa) Wykle. His siblings; Thomas (Barb) Wykle, and Mary Beth (Gerard) Roberts. Jim is further survived by his grandchildren; Hannah, and Meaghan O'Hara, Thomas, Taylor, and Lauren Wykle.
