Obituary

John F. Lysaght II, known affectionately by his family as "Dad, Grandpa, Papa, or Brat", from East Troy, WI passed away unexpectedly on February 21, 2025, at the age of 69 in Milwaukee, WI at the VA Hospital. He was born on July 10, 1955, in Milwaukee, WI, to Charles Marshall Lysaght (Jane) Hodgins. John was also raised by his foster parents, Leland (Betty) Pettis.

John married the love of his life, Teresa (Morris) Lysaght, on June 24, 1978, in Waukesha, WI. For over 40 years, they created a beautiful life filled with adventures and cherished moments with their family, especially their 10 grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army from 1973 to 1976, achieving the rank of Specialist 4 (SP-4) before being honorably discharged. During his Military service, John was stationed in Berlin, Germany, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Occupation Medal for his time in Berlin, and a Marksman Award for the M-16, among other accolades.

John had several hobbies that brought him joy, and his joy was infectious. He loved fishing, boating, watching NASCAR, playing card games, and passionately cheering for the Green Bay Packers. He was an exceptional (in his own words) Cribbage, Euchre, and Sheepshead player, and it was one of his favorite pastimes and skills he passed on to his family members. John enjoyed spending time over the years with all his siblings and in-laws. He was part of a special brotherhood of six brothers who were one of the great lifelines that carried him through his life. John was a giver. His daily purpose and actions involved caring for his family. When he gathered with his brothers, their bonds, support, and lively engagements gave to him and filled him with happiness and joy. You would find them drinking a cold beer and talking loudly about politics, the military, and their memories of growing up together.  Above all, John put his family first, often setting aside his own interests to support his children and grandchildren. He skillfully taught them various trades, from fixing vehicles to building houses to never giving up. John was a skilled craftsman, and he enjoyed crafting items for Teresa to sell at craft fairs, often complaining about the details, but his discipline, loyalty, and dependability were always at the forefront of his actions.

Overall, he was a GREAT MAN who kept his word and was always there for his family. He was "OUR ROCK" and the most dependable and committed father, husband, grandpa/papa, and brat. He LOVED the life that he had built, and he will forever be missed by all.

John is survived by his loving wife, Teresa; his children: John (Andrea) Lysaght of Elkhorn, WI, Jim Lysaght of Elkhorn, WI, Florence Lysaght of East Troy, WI, Betty (Eddie) Lysaght of East Troy, WI, and Trisha (John) Akers of Pewaukee, WI. He is also survived by his siblings: Jim (Paula) Lysaght, Charles (Nancy) Lysaght, Richard Lysaght, Branda Lysaght, Candy Conrad, Colleen Gallagher, Bonnie (Michael) Mazur, Kenny Pettis, Terry Pettis, and Brenda Pettis, His cherished grandchildren: Olivia, Ayden, and Carson Lysaght; Austin, John III, Ethan (EJ), and Jayce Lysaght; and Damien, Devin, and Emmiline "Pipsqueak" Akers. Along with multiple nieces, nephews extended family and friends. Additionally, John leaves behind his beloved dogs, Chloe, Lilly, and Ruby Lysaght.
