Elkhorn: Joseph E. Schweitzer; 66 of N. Washington Street Elkhorn, WI died unexpectedly Tuesday December 29 at his home. He was born November 1, 1949 in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Joseph Wm. and Edna Mae (Jones) Schweitzer. Joe served in the US Air Force from 1968 until 1971, with tours of duty in Turkey, and England. He was united in marriage to Joni E. Greb on January 25, 1971 in Oundle, England.

Joe served as a decorated Sheriff's Deputy with the Walworth County Sheriff's Department for over 27 years, retiring in 2002. While there, Joe was the head negotiator with the S.W.A.T. team, the first officer to train as an EMT, and for many years also served with the Elkhorn Ambulance Service. Joe was a proud member of the Elkhorn American Legion, Post #6375.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joni, his children Jim Schweitzer of Las Vegas, NV, and Jeri Lindsey of Waterford, WI, three grandchildren; Connor Grunden and Rodney and Marsha Whetlow, four sisters; Carol (Siegfried) Siebeneich, Mary (Terry) Sorenson and Janet Payne, all of Kenosha, WI and Kathy (Jeff) Paradise of Punta Gorda, FL, and also by a host of other relatives and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Marsha.

Celebration of Life Gathering from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM Sunday January 3, 2016 at the Monte Carlo Room, 720 N. Wisconsin Street Elkhorn, WI.
