Obituary

Katherine L. Benhart, age 83, of Lake Geneva, WI, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025. Daughter of the late Peter and Verna Asmann, Kathie was born on October 24, 1941 on the family farm in Union Grove, WI. She graduated from Union Grove High School and went on to study at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, earning her degree to become an elementary school teacher. She later took night classes while teaching to obtain her master's degree in education. On June 27, 1970, Kathie was united in marriage with Robert E. Benhart, and the couple raised two sons on their farm.

Kathie's involvement in her community was evident in her 40+ years of teaching, 35+ years as a 4-H leader, and 50 years as a member of First United Methodist Church in Elkhorn. She also volunteered at Old World Wisconsin and took many trips with the Walworth County Senior Travel Club. In her free time, Kathie was an avid reader and knitter, and could often be found yelling at the Packers on TV on Sunday afternoons.

Kathie was a loving and supportive mother who cared a lot for her boys. She was a saint of a wife according to Bob, and the only role that she excelled at even more than that of a mother, was grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them playing, doing puzzles, baking, and just being present in their lives.

Kathie is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Bob Benhart; sons, Eric (Jessica Clapper) Benhart and Karl (Corinne) Benhart; grandchildren, Troy, Riley, Evelyn, and James Benhart; and sisters, Beatrice Alderson and Grace Mears. In death she is reunited with her parents, Peter and Verna Asmann; brothers, Dick (Eleanor), Leonard, and Gerry (Maggie) Asmann; and brothers-in-law, Louie Alderson and Robert Mears.
