Obituary

Kenneth Dale Sandberg, age 68, of Elkhorn, WI, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Son of the late Victor and Florence (Holcomb) Sandberg, Ken was born in Waukesha, WI, on August 5, 1956, one of eleven children. He was a hardworking man who dedicated much of his life to his craft. As a union carpenter, he spent many years doing drywall work before founding his own business, S&S Concrete. His pride in his work was evident in the many homes he had a hand in building, and his passion for construction remained unwavering throughout his life.

Ken was a true workaholic, always striving to create something lasting and meaningful. Beyond his work, Ken had a love for music and enjoyed playing his drums in the evenings. His love for music extended to rock 'n' roll, dancing, and singing—often off-key—but he was always the life of the party, never afraid to be bold and enjoy the moment.

Ken's love story began when he met his wife, Julie, at the Abbey in Lake Geneva, where they were both attending separate parties. Julie saw free-spirited Ken dancing on a table and knew she wanted to meet him. Ken and Julie were married on August 26, 1977 and have spent the past 49 years together building a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. The couple raised four children, and Ken was a loving, affectionate father.

When the kids were growing up, he took the family on regular camping trips near the Dells, preferring to spend his weekends on the Wisconsin River with his wife and children. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and cooking breakfast on the weekends. Breakfast was Ken's favorite meal of the day, and back home he was a daily regular at Nora's Café for early morning breakfasts. In his free time, he also enjoyed watching old Western movies, much to his family's chagrin.

Ken loved life and was always dreaming about what the next chapter would bring, whether that meant a fun vacation on a cruise, the next big project at work, or retiring in a tropical location. He had a larger-than-life personality and a great sense of humor, easily making friends and finding a good time in most anything he did.

Ken is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Sandberg; children, Jason (Melissa) Sandberg, Christopher Sandberg, Michael (Toni) Sandberg, and Kendra (Christopher) Kennedy; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Tyler, Greyson, and Noelle Sandberg, and Everett Kennedy; brothers, Albert, Jack, and George (Debbie) Sandberg; and sister, Karen Benish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Florence; and siblings, Bill, Neal, Robert, Rose, Elizabeth, and Victor. Ken was also loved by many nieces and nephews.
