Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" J. Nettesheim 75 of Elkhorn, WI died on Wednesday June 28, 2023 surrounded by his family.  Larry was born on February 10, 1948, the youngest son of Alvin and Dorothy (McCaffrey) Nettesheim; often referred to as "Babe" by his siblings to signify his difference in age.  Larry grew up in Elkhorn, farming with his family. Their farm was located on the northwest corner of Elkhorn.  Larry was considered an older brother, mentor, and friend to many of the neighborhood kids, who enjoyed coming to the farm and spending time with Larry, even if they ended up baling hay.

Larry was a graduate of Elkhorn High School where he was active in FFA. He went on to further his education in, a field he loved so much, Agriculture. He did this by attending UW Madison Farm and Industry Short Course where he learned the many skills needed to continue his passion.  After college he bought his current farm.  Shortly after moving to his new farm he went to a party and met Lucille. They fell in love and later married on August 20, 1977.  Together they farmed and raised four children Joseph, Cheryl, Dan, and Glen.  Unfortunately, Joseph proceeded Larry and Lucille in death.

After his retirement in 2014, Larry and Lucille started Lucy's Kettle Corn that they would run at local farmers markets and festivals.  Over the years Larry spent much of his free time rooting very proudly for the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers, where he may have developed his love of peanuts. He also spent many years bowling on Saturday night couples league with family friends.

Larry was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and School, where he was one of the original graduates. Larry volunteered much of his time in service to his faith.  Larry ushered on Sundays following in his father Alvin's footsteps. He would sell donut holes and flowers on Mother's Day after mass. As his father before him Larry joined the Knights of Columbus where he achieved the highest level of 4th degree.  He served as treasurer  for over 40 years and would spend his time during the Walworth County Fair helping the Knights make cream puffs and éclairs. He followed in his father's footsteps when it came to the parish school as well; his father donated the land and helped build the school, so along with help from Henry Schmitt and Dave Mathesius, Larry farmed the extra school ground and gave the money to help fund the school.
