Hoke Stuart
April 1, 1947 – May 20, 2024
Linda Fay Hoke Stuart, 77, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Formerly a resident of Waukegan, Illinois, for 42 years, Linda was born on April 1, 1947 in Titusville, Pennsylvania, to Ruel and Helen (Turner) Hoke.
Despite being born with spina bifida and spending most of her life using a wheel chair, Linda began her working career as an accountant for the U.S. government. Later, she earned an associate degree and was a paralegal for the Office of the Illinois Attorney General.
Linda was a passionate advocate for people with disabilities and following enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990, Linda focused on ADA cases.
Through her advocacy work, Linda met John Stuart, the love of her life. They married September 9, 2000, and shared 14 wonderful years together until his death in 2015.
Following early retirement as a result of her disability, Linda was a volunteer with numerous disability organizations, active with the Walworth County Democrats, and a member of the Delavan United Church of Christ.
Linda is survived by her son, William Jason Uimari of Waukegan, Illinois; her sister, Carol A. McShane-Street (Rickey M. Street) of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; her brother, Robert (Catherine) Hoke of Schaumburg, Illinois; and a slew of other relatives.
