Obituary

Louise W. Schwandt, 90 of Pell Lake, WI.   Died Wednesday January 13, 2016 at Golden Years of Walworth Assisted Living where she had been a resident for the past ten months.  Louise was born in Pell Lake on August 14, 1925 the daughter of the late William and Lillie (Vonder Heide) Schwandt.

Louise loved kids, candy, cookies and Korbel.   If there was a group of kids gathering, chances are Louise was in the middle of them, teaching, explaining, asking questions, or learning from them.  The candy jar was always filled.  There seemed to be an ample supply of Peppermint Stars or Licorice Jelly Beans.  The cookie jar was also always filled.  Sugar cookies were an all-time favorite, but there would also be sightings of Chocolate Chip or Snickerdoodles.  Ah, the Korbel….favorite beverage of choice.   Perhaps one could argue olives were the favorite vegetable of choice, too.

Louise was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Genoa City.  She was active with many volunteering and fund raising activities, but could most often be seen in the kitchen, hands in the dishpan.  She was the church's dishwasher extraordinaire.  She served as Sunday School Superintendent for decades, along with various roles on the Board of Trustees, Administrative Council, Staff Parish Relations Committee, as a Choir member, and Liturgist.   She brought a lifetime of experience and learning to each role she undertook.

Louise attended UW-Whitewater and UW-Lacrosse earning her Teaching Certificate, Bachelor and Masters Degrees.  She taught Elementary School in rural Walworth County and with the Lacrosse and Kenosha School Districts over a span of 42 years.  She touched many lives with her teaching.

Louise was a Charter Member of the Bloomfield Center Post 5830 VFW Auxiliary and held many offices, most recently as Secretary/Treasurer.

Louise is survived by two nieces, Rita (David) Running of Green Bay, WI.  And Roxanne (Pedro) Corpus of Delavan, WI.  And two nephews Bob (Linda) Schwandt of Onalaska, WI.  And Bill Schwandt of Appleton, WI.  As well as Cousins and friends.   She was preceded in death by her four brothers:  Henry, George, William and Hubert.   Sister-In-Law Jean Schwandt and Nephew Wayne Schwandt.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Louise will be held on Monday January 18, 2016at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, 518 Booth Street, Genoa City, WI.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Genoa City, WI.  The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 am until the time of the service.  Memorial contributions may be made in Louise's name to the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 838, Genoa City, WI. 53128, Children's Hospital of WI.
