Margaret L Filus

Margaret L. Filus, born on August 16, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in Trevor, Wisconsin. Throughout her life, Margaret was a devoted professional, making her mark as a dog groomer in Antioch, Illinois, where for many years she brought beauty and care to countless pets and joy to their owners.

Margaret held a deep-seated love for reading, which complemented her nurturing spirit, both in her career and personal life. Her dedication extended beyond her work; she was also proud of her engagement with various activity clubs during her time living in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she resided for two decades. These clubs not only enriched her life but also allowed her to form lasting friendships and connect with her community.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Lystlund (the late David) and Karen (Richard) Bray, who carry forward her legacy. Margaret was a cherished grandmother to four grandchildren: Michelle (Dave) Berquist, Amy (Jason) Dunn, Jake (Katie) Zimmermann, and Michael (Theresa) Lystlund. Her family continued to grow, and she took immense pride in her role as a great-grandmother to Brandon, Lauren, Ryan, Logan, Jacob, Maggie, and Maddalyn, and Scarlet, who were sources of great joy in her life.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael J. Filus Jr., who was a significant pillar in her life, as well as her parents, Edward and Eleanore (nee Bialk) Drzonek, and her sisters, Mary Ann Csaji and Janis Czarnik.

Her impact on those she loved and her contributions to her profession will be remembered fondly. The legacy of Margaret L. Filus is one of compassion, dedication, and the profound love she shared with her family and community. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
