Marilyn Yurs, formerly of Elkhorn, WI, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 18, 2024 at her assisted living facility in Port Charlotte, Florida, where she resided for the last ten years.

Marilyn Jean Martin, born January 30,1931 was the daughter of Leslie and Nora Martin of Elgin, IL.  Marilyn graduated from Elgin High School and worked at the Elgin Watch Factory.  Marilyn met and married William (Bill) Yurs on Sept 2, 1950. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Bill passed on April 13, 2013.

They began their farming career on rented farm ground in the Plato Center area until they accompanied friends to Southern WI who were looking for a small farm, and along with them, they found their future home and 200 acre farm on County Rd A. In 1960, Bill and Marilyn moved from Plato Center, IL to Elkhorn, where they eventually accumulated a total of three farms, raising registered Holstein cattle. They took great pride in their cows, displaying them at local, state, and national shows. Besides being a busy mother and dairy farmer's wife, she was an active member of the Bethel Methodist Church, singing for many years in the choir. She volunteered as a "Pink Lady" for Lakeland Hospital, was a member of the Homemakers Club and Tops of Milton, WI. The couple played cards monthly with other Illinois transplants to the area, enjoyed square dancing, and attending the Walworth County Fair. Marilyn made many meals over the years for their Golden Harvest seed corn customers along with the many co-workers they employed or rented to, who became lifelong friends. Once all the cows were sold, Bill and Marilyn enjoyed winters at their home in the Punta Gorda, FL area and spending time with daughter, Nancy and her family, who lived in the area.  At their home in Florida, they enjoyed biking, golfing, and spending time with family and friends.  Marilyn was an avid game player and spent many afternoons and evenings playing Rummikub, Skip-Bo and all kinds of card games.

After Bill's passing in 2013, she opted for warm winters and no snow, moving to Florida at the same time her daughter, Laura and Wayne moved to Port Charlotte. Marilyn had a very creative soul and passed that on to so many in her family. She rarely missed any of her kids' school events and activities and continued that with her grandchildren, as well. She was extremely blessed with a long, full life of love and laughter .️

Marilyn is survived by her children; Dennis (Susan) Yurs of Milton, WI, Brenda Yurs of River Falls, WI, Laura Yurs (Wayne Dober) of Port Charlotte, FL, and Nancy (Douglas) Lee of Punta Gorda, FL. Loving grandmother to nine grandchildren; Jason (Jennifer) Yurs of Ft. Atkinson, WI, Adam (Jennifer) Yurs of Janesville, WI, Aaron (Erin) Mason of Hudson, WI, Garrett (Sara Eyman) Bunyard of Godfrey, IL, Justin Dober of Leadville, CO, Jessica (Jesse) Dunham of Lamar, MO, Bradley (Kara) Dober of Seattle, WA, Maggie (Alec Armbruster) Lee of Las Vegas, NV, and Alex (Emma) Lee of Punta Gorda, FL. Twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held at Haase Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory 730 N. Wisconsin St. in Elkhorn, WI from 1:00PM to 2:00M on Friday June 28, 2024 with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00PM. Internment will be directly after at Mount Pleasant Cemetery on the corner of Hwy. H & Cty. Rd. A in Elkhorn.
