Mathew Joel Goodman, 72, previously from Genoa City, WI, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024 with family by his side. He was born on December 12, 1951 to Charlene D. Goodman and the late Donald C. Goodman, in Browntown, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by brothers Gordon J. Goodman and baby Gregory D. Goodman, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his mother Charlene D. Eddy, wife Debra L. Goodman, sons Steven and Jayson Goodman, grandchildren Jake, Eric, Nathan, and Jessica Goodman, two great grandchildren, and stepbrother Scott (Ellen) Eddy.
Mat graduated with honors from Badger High School. He loved swimming and diving and won many awards. After Badger Mat attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs before transferring and graduating from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a bachelor's degree in Math and Applied Aerospace. During his time there, he was a tutor to other students that needed help in science and math.
In the mid-70's Mat's interest in flying was furthered when he earned his private pilot's license. He continued to share his love of flying with many students as a flight instructor. While working as a Supervisor in the Engine Division at American Motors, in 1978 Mat met his future wife, Debra L. Goodman. They subsequently married, had children, and started a business - Goodman Aero Service, which provided seaplane private pilot instruction.
Mat and family enjoyed summer trips with his father Don and Don's wife, Jackie, on the Mississippi river camping, water skiing, and boating. In 1961, Charlene married Earl (Sid) Eddy and Scott Eddy became Mat's loving stepbrother. Mat and family regularly enjoyed dinner, cards, and music at Charlene and Sid's in Genoa City. Charlene and Sid helped with guidance in every aspect of Mat's family's lives.
Mat continued his career flying all over the United States. He attended the Oshkosh Airshow yearly and flew in Germany's very first Berlin Air Show. During his career with Commander Aircraft, starting in the sales department, Mat flew to Germany, Paris, France, and England. After some years, he became President of Commander. Mat retired to Checotah, OK, to live on the lake that he loved.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday May 9, 2024, at 4:30PM at the Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home, 113 Freeman St., Genoa City, WI. Military Honors at the Funeral Home at 4:30PM. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until the time of services. Private burial will be held on Friday May 10, 2024 at 1:00PM at Saucerman Cemetery, Browntown, WI. The Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home of Genoa City, WI is honored to serve the Goodman and Eddy families.
