Ray Shannon "Vista Ray Shannon" died at home after an ugly bout with cancer. A life-long Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan, he was deeply disappointed he would miss this football season. Born in Chicago, he grew up in Wheaton, IL. Graduate of Quincy Univ. '66. Enlisted USMC, OCS and was a 1st Lt. DaNang, Vietnam 67-68. Thanks to the GI Bill, he received his M.Ed. at ISU 75. Retired from Washington M.S. in Vista in '07, after 28 years as a PE teacher/coach; CLMS Educator of the Year 01 and four-time Coach of the Year. Ray was grateful for the excellent healthcare he received from everyone at the VA-La Jolla. Survived by his siblings: Patrick (Merrilee), Robert (Nancy), Mary and Joanne (Thomas Kearin). Proud uncle of 9, great-uncle of 6, nephew and cousin to many. Preceded in death by parents James and Catherine (nee Hannagan), sister Cathleen (Mohamed Sweidan), brother James III, and niece Christen. Memorial visitation Sat., Aug. 20th, 11am-12:30pm at Haase-Lockwood Funeral Home, 730 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, WI, followed by funeral procession to Mt. Olivet Cemetery for burial of urn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the James P.
