Obituary

Robert Wayne Fiskum, husband of Yvonne Eniz Siats, father of Roberta Avonn Fiskum, and the recognized dog walker of the Akitas, and bike rider, in Elkhorn left us on February 7th, 2025. Bob was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Ed and Irene (Lindquist) Fiskum on May 2nd, 1931. After graduating in 1949 from Parkers Prairie High School, Minnesota, he would spend the next 6 years in the U.S. Navy. His undergraduate education was completed at the Bemidji State College in Minnesota, and graduate education at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. Palm Beach Junior College in Florida was his first career stop. From there he moved to Flint Community College in Flint, Michigan. In 1965 his final destination became the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where, as Assistant Professor, he spent the next 31 years teaching and coaching, retiring in 1996. Coach Fiskum, throughout his tenure, was involved in track and field, cross-country, swimming, and soccer. The UW-W Soccer field was named in his honor. Robert also served on the UW-Whitewater Foundation Board for 9 years.

A semester backpacking in Africa with the National Outdoor Leadership School in the summer of 1978 with a side trip sight-seeing in Cairo, Egypt, was a high point in his educational career along with leading a group of students from the University, along with his daughter, to the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, in Peru. His early retirement years were spent hiking in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas where he had built a home on his 101 acres overlooking the White River, and Ozark National Forest with time off in Elkhorn walking his dog. Even at the age of 93 he stayed active. Up through November of 2024, he could be seen riding his bike up to 10 miles per day through and around Elkhorn. He looked forward to and enjoyed the daily rides. When he wasn't riding, he was working in his yard or around his house and enjoying time with his best friend, his cat Teegar. To sum up his life; "He was his own man."

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne, and his daughter Roberta.

A private internment and services will be held in Mizpah, Minnesota, where he will rest beside his daughter and wife. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Foundation Roberta Avonn Fiskum Scholarship, or Lakeland Animal Welfare Society.
