IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sonia A.
(Kapinos) Jaszkowski
May 10, 1949 – November 14, 2023
Sonia Jaszkowski, a Powers Lake resident who taught at Randall School for more than 30 years, passed away on November 14, 2023. She was 74.
Born in St. Andrews, Scotland, on May 10, 1949, she immigrated to the United States with her parents Josef and Mildred (Emmerson) in 1952. She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Northeastern Illinois University.
Known as "Mrs. J" to her students, Sonia loved wearing high heels and going to the beach (often at the same time). She had a great sense of style, and despite her reluctance to pose for photos, she was always camera-ready. Family and friends knew her as a great cook, a savvy QVC shopper and the one in the room most likely to get the right answers on Jeopardy!
Sonia is survived by her daughter Jill (Scott) Paetzold; grandchildren Zach (Kammi), Eliott, and Grant; great-grandchildren Silas and Quinton; brother John (Tina) Kapinos, sister Linda (Gary) Palicki; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful people who, over the past year, provided Sonia with transportation to medical appointments, help with household tasks, companionship, and care.
