Obituary

Stanley F. Newell, loving husband of Bette Ann Newell (Rocek), passed away peacefully the morning of Saturday, June 1, 2024, at his home in Elkhorn, WI surrounded by his family.

Beloved father of Matthew Newell, Alison (Steele) Whowell, and Adam Newell.  Proud grandfather aka "Pop Pop" of Adalayde, Penelope, Clementine Newell, Aspen, Steeler, and Willow Whowell. Younger brother of Jeanne Ducommun.  Loving Uncle to Scott Ducommun and Aimee (Atticus) Olson.  Proud great uncle to Isabella Ducommun, Van, Kaja, Gavin and Stellan Olson.  Son of the late Lester S. Newell and Helen (Foster) Newell of Denver, CO where Stan was born on February 23, 1943.

Stanley grew up in the Denver area.  He attended South High School where he graduated 8th in his class of 902 and played football until he injured both of his knees.  After high school, he attended the University of Colorado for three years, and then left in Nov of 1963 to enlist in the United States Army Reserves.  He later returned to CU to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Employment with Nalco brought Stanley to Chicago where he met the love of his life, Bette.  They were married on July 26, 1969 in Bellmore, NY.  They enjoyed many years in Chicago together, had many very close friends they enjoyed spending time with, and several memorable sailing trips across Lake Michigan.

In 1978, after the loss of Stanley's mother, he moved his family to Parker, CO to be closer to his father.  He was employed by GE Water/Betz Dearborn where over the next 30 years he would earn 5 Eagle Awards for his dedication and outstanding service.  In his spare time, he enjoyed going back to his alma mater to attend football games.  He was also an avid outdoorsman where he loved to hike, fish, and camp with his family.  He also enjoyed bow hunting for elk with his buddies despite never getting an elk.   Later in life, he enjoyed collecting guns for sport shooting. Stanley also loved to be out on the lake spending time with his family on his boat.

In their later years, Stanley and Bette sold their home in CO and moved to Elkhorn, WI to be closer to their grandchildren during the summer months and then Florence, AZ where they would spend their winters.  Stanley was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, who will be deeply missed by his family.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to St Croix Hospice for their amazing care and loving support through these last 5 months.
