Wallace H. Hinz passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, on what marked his 95th birthday. Born on December 16, 1930, in Chili, Wisconsin, Wallace dedicated his life to mechanical engineering and service to his country. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin Madison, which laid the foundation for a successful career at Waukesha Engine in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Wallace proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, exemplifying bravery and dedication during a pivotal time in history. He received a Combat Infantry Badge and was trained to be a Chemical Biological Radiological Warfare Commander. His commitment to service extended beyond military duty; he was an active member of the Society of Automotive Engineers for an impressive 60 years, through which he fostered a love for innovation in engineering and technology. Additionally, he was involved with the Early Day Gas and Tractor Association for many years, where he shared his passion for vintage machinery.
An avid tinkerer, Wallace spent countless hours working on old cars, melding creativity with technical skill. He thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility of fishing, which provided him a reflective respite from his busy life.
Wallace is survived by his daughter, Susan Hinz; his son, William "Bill" (Wendy) Hinz; and his granddaughters, Rebecca (Samuel) Buck, Elizabeth Hinz, and Catherine Manlolo. He will be deeply missed by family and friends drawn by his gentle spirit and steadfast character.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan (Roemke) Hinz; his father, Walter Hinz; his mother, Emma (Nierode) Hinz, and his sister Virginia Everson.
A visitation will take place on April 11, 2026, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM. Military Funeral Honors will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin, on April 13, 2026, at 10:30 AM.
Wallace H. Hinz’s legacy as a devoted family man, a skilled engineer, and a patriot will endure through the many lives he touched. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
